Scenic Art

1) Base of brown and orange acrylic on canvas

2) Sketched wood pattern

3) Added wash of brown and light grain while wet

4) Waited until totally dry to add more wood grain with a bone dry brush

5) Painted on wood grain to match reference photo

6) Added highlights and scuff marks. Then finished with matte finishing spray

Matching Wood Grain

1) Used a dry brush and sponge to blend multiple colors as a base

2) Sprayed dark and light paint to add texture

3) Measured the canvas and used watered down white paint as mortar

4) Used a fine brush to paint shadows and a larger brush for white highlights. Went over canvas again with splatter to add more texture.

5) Added additional color and shading to brick. Then sealed with finishing spray.

Brick

1) Base of white paint on a wooden slab.

2) Used a dry brush and sponge to add texture. I would have preferred a natural sponge but used what was available.

3) Tried wrinkled paper for a more diverse texture.

4) Added a gray wash to blend out harsh lines.

5) Waited for the first wash to dry, and added a second coat. Once dry again, used a matte finishing spray. I would have used glossy if available.

Caitlyn from Arcane

Caitlyn Kiramman, from the award winning Netflix show Arcane, has always been a favorite character of mine. However, I found that her costumes were either too cheaply made, too expensive, or would take too long to arrive. I built her costume to my own measurements with custom armor patterns, wig styling, and altering / reusing pieces I found secondhand. It was an incredibly fun project which tested my skills as a seamstress, painter, and craftsman.
